We simply aren’t equipped to comprehend not existing. It’s a property of emergence - a metaphenomenon that is subsumes on a neural network. We don’t know what consciousness is but it arises from the architecture of our brains in some way. The fact that consciousness emerges from this structure means that it is difficult for it to imagine how it could exist without that structure.
